BEHIND THE BRUSH

Whether I am painting flowers, figures, or commissioned pieces, my intention is always to capture the essence of a moment - its atmosphere, its emotion, its story.

I was born and raised in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, where my love for art began with simple sketches of the world around me. That early curiosity grew into a lifelong passion, leading me to pursue a Fine Arts degree at Potchefstroom University. My artistic journey has since taken many forms - from a career in advertising to working as a sculptor with Slatoff Studio in Los Angeles, where I spent several years creating life-size clay figures.

Today, I focus primarily on painting with oil on canvas as my chosen medium. I am drawn to the subtle transparency, depth, and richness that oil paint offers. My sculptural background continues to influence my work deeply - form, volume and structure are always present, as are the dynamic interactions between color, light, and shadow. Beauty of nature and my own spiritual journey are constant sources of inspiration. Exposure to different cultures has profoundly shaped the way I see the world and the way I create, adding layers of meaning and nuance to my work.

Ultimately I strive to create work that connects, to preserve memory and place not only for myself, but for others. There is a great reward in translating personal and meaningful moments onto canvas, and in sharing that resonance with those who view my art.
